Grand Vintage Moet & Chocolate Mendiants

Grand Vintage Moet & Chocolate Mendiants

Moet & Chandon speak of their 2013 Grand Vintage as having a “truly unique character with a lively and well-defined palate”. Everything you would expect from a mature Champagne that has spent more than seven years ageing in the cellars, in other words. If we had to distil the descriptions into one word we would go with ‘outstanding’. To accompany the Champagne we have chosen an assortment of chocolate mendiants. A mendiant is an old-style French confectionary that was usually made at Christmas time and takes its name from the Latin word for begging. The nuts and dried fruit that were studded into each chocolate disc represented the four monastic orders, whose members survived entirely on donations. Mendiants are still popular today because they taste divine, and the team at Van Roy have excelled themselves with these particular examples.
